San Antonio’s Best Breweries

In Neighborhood, restaurants, San Antonio, Texas

Microbreweries and craft beers are taking over the taps in the beer industry. The bigger commercial company lagers aren’t cutting it for beer lovers anymore. Local brewers have made their mark and continue to bring in crowds with new full-flavored beers and unique brewing styles.

Innovative brewers who produce anything from seasonal ales to robust stouts have given beer connoisseurs everywhere a reason to test out local brewpubs and choose which cold one best suits their palate.

Whether it’s relaxing at the end of a busy work week, watching an intense game, or sinking their teeth into a juicy burger, Americans aren’t strangers to the act of wetting their whistle with a cold brewski.

Brewers are constantly coming up with new hop combinations and beer flavors to keep customers coming back for more. Let’s see what some of the local breweries have to offer:

— The Pearl– This historical all-inclusive market is located less than ten minutes from The Broadway. It has something for everyone, from a farmers market featuring artisan food and produce provided by local farmers to an elegant French bakery. The real attraction for lager lovers, however, is Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery.

Beer goes best with food, and Southerleigh offers a blend of the South’s most well-known comfort cuisine and seasonal coastal classics that accompany the perfect drink. The brewery has 21 beers on tap. You won’t be disappointed with their array of original drafts such as Texas Uncommon Ale with a hint of mint or In The Arms of Morpheus stout with subtle notes of chocolate.

— Freetail Brewing Company– This funky, offbeat brewery is about ten minutes south of The Broadway off Interstate 37. Freetail Brewing has daily deals and beer to go when you fill your own growler.

Their seasonal beers are as eclectic as their style, such as Freetail’s specialty brew Local Coffee Stout. This dark porter was inspired by a local coffee shop that moved in across the street. The brewmaster has taken the time to list superb pairings for each beer.

Freetail has fun and entertaining events for their customers such as craft comedy night and yoga. They also offer weekly tours and an option for renting out their tasting room for private events and parties.

— The Growler Exchange– This local hot spot is located just north of Alamo Heights and about ten minutes from The Broadway. Carrying the description of a craft beer filling station and taproom, The Growler Exchange is designed for those who love to talk beer. Patrons can sit and watch a game indoors or enjoy the warm breeze on the patio with their pets while enjoying a fresh pint of their favorite on-tap brew.

The Growler Exchange is known for their Mug Club. This exclusive club offers members a chance to bring in their personal growler, fill it up with a specialty draft, and take it to enjoy later. Club members have access to special offers, discounted growler refills, branded merchandise, and more.
